Trick Tom Goes 261.5 mph at the Texas Mile

Here's a little write up from a local message board about my buddy Tommy Gates about his Record setting weekend.

TOMMY GATES HAS BEEN AROUND RACING FOR A LONG TIME. "TRICK TOM" AS WE CALLED HIM BACK IN THE DAY WAS ONE OF THE DRIVERS FOR KEVIN MASSEY'S INFAMOUS "GOLDUST" CAMARO. WE DIDN'T SEE HIM FOR A WHILE THEN A FEW YEARS BACK HE POPS UP ON A MOTORCYCLE AND STARTS RUNNING THE TEXAS MILE.

Here's what Tom Had to say about the record setting run, "See the attached, the last pic is me going through the traps at 253 in a bad cross wind, SCARY!"

I built this bike from scratch in 3 months with help from Schnitz Racing, RCC Turbos, Third Coast Speed, Chris Brandon, and Mark Dearza. Chris did all the fab work, welding and wiring. I built the chassis, motor, etc. and put it all together. It’s a stock bore 1300cc Hayabusa engine with a stock cases, crank, and head. It makes over 600 rear wheel horse power via a Garrett GT40R turbo and an air/water intercooler. It ran the 261.5 on the 4th run ever on the bike. There’s more left in it but the wind picked up and it wasn’t worth the risk since I already had the record. They hold these standing mile races at 4 places in the USA and 1 in Europe, so I’m currently the worlds fastest motorcycle in the standing mile.

Congratulations Tom!
